I have many years of teaching experience, from private one-on-one lessons, high schools and various after school teaching academies ranging from 6-7 year olds starting out to a 65 year old fulfilling a life long dream to play the drums. I pull from my own memories of very enjoyable drum lessons when I was a kid, to my experience starting in bands back in Liverpool, to sessions in the studio and now, West End and Broadway shows.
My philosophy has always been, fun and light with an emphasis on playing/making music in a group or band setting. Encouraging listening and awareness of the noise you are making and the noises you are hearing. And for the more serious student, I will push you how I see fit. Digging deeper into technique, a higher level of coordination and professional applications like recording techniques, playing to a click and reading more complex charts.
Teaching @ Shabby Road Studios
I also teach drum kit from my studio here at Shabby Road Studios, located in the Woodland Hills area of Los Angeles. I can help you get started on the drums, help you with an on going gig, work on specific parts/charts or just help you have fun and hit them really hard and loud!
As part of the service here at SRS I can record your lesson. Seeing as this is a working studio we have the facility here to record at a high quality each lesson and give you a CD/File/Upload for you to go back over what we covered in our session together. This is something I did ‘back in the day’ in Liverpool, although all my lessons were on cassette tape on a twin deck ghetto blaster:).
I can also come to you if you have a setup at home and would rather the comfort of your own house/studio. Extra charges apply and will depend on travel time.
Having my own two young boys I get sometimes it can be hard to keep your commitment to your lesson each week or bi-weekly. I ask of you to do your best and let me know if you or your child can not make the lesson with 24 hours notice. I also understand that sometimes your child maybe ill the day of, I completely understand and will work with you to re-schedule without having to burden you with any costs.
There will also be times when I can not do the lesson because of a gig commitment and/or a last minute session/gig. As I asked of you, I will do my best to inform you ASAP of any changes to the schedule.
